Château Tayet Prestige
AOC Bordeaux Supérieur

Located in Macau at the gateway to the Médoc, Château Tayet overlooks the Gironde Estuary and benefits from good sun exposure conducive to perfect grape ripening.

The estate is located on the banks of the Gironde, close to Macau harbour, where water from the Estuary constantly moves back and forth with the tides. The estate's vineyards have benefited from this environment for several centuries and produce wonderfully characterful wines. Indeed, when all the Bordeaux vineyards were nearly wiped out by the phylloxera crisis at the end of the 19th century, only the vines closest to the river survived, producing the majority of Bordeaux wines at the time. Several generations of winegrowers have continued to improve the quality of wines grown on this alluvial plain.

Formerly known as Château Les Charmilles, the De Schepper family renamed the estate Château Tayet when they purchased it in 1994.

Château Tayet Cuvée Prestige

Bordeaux Supérieur

What the Médoc has to offer today

Since 1994, Jean-Michel Garcion has produced a Cuvée Prestige at Château Tayet which ranks above average for a Bordeaux Supérieur, both in terms of its aromatic complexity and full body, expressing the finest aspects of the Médoc terroir. By using new barrels for ageing and increasing the percentage of Petit Verdot year on year, the wine has gained complexity and personality, while offering unbeatable value for money.

Following cold pre-fermentation maceration, the wine is kept on the skins for 15 to 30 days in concrete and stainless-steel vats of varying sizes for fine-tuned plot-by-plot fermentation. Each operation is carried out according to the vintage and grapes, and all vats are analysed independently.  The methods applied are determined by tasting the grapes and assessing the condition of the vineyards, then tasting the juice.

The wines are aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, including 50 to 100% new barrels.

The wine is deep red with an attractive, delicate nose featuring vanilla and spice aromas. Full-bodied on the palate with ripe tannin, it has a long aftertaste with delicate oaky aromas.

Maintaining traditions

A small section of the vineyard is devoted to the production of Château Tayet Tradition, sold on specific markets. This wine represents a more traditional Bordeaux Supérieur, best enjoyed young, highlighting the fruitiness of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.

The wines are aged for 18 in stainless steel vats.

Château Tayet is a deep ruby-red with a straightforward, attractive red fruit nose, going on to reveal a beautiful concentration on the palate and long aftertaste.
